Laurie Erickson, Ph.D., M.S.

Chair, Health Sciences, Sarah Hartman Women’s College

Dr. Erickson has traveled through the United States during her extensive education. She earned a B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University, a M.S. in Zoology from Texas Tech University, and a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Dr. Erickson has published more than 30 scientific papers, and frequently makes presentations at STEM conferences. Her research experiences have included the Human Genome Project, stem cells, wildlife biology, cancer mechanisms, and drug development. Dr. Erickson applies her research experiences to create innovative teaching methods and laboratory experiences for the students. She encourages students to consider the many different careers available in the fields of medicine and biology. She emphasizes the Scientific Method for both major and non-major students, to prepare them to use critical thinking to aid in making future scientific discoveries.
