On October 22, FYHS students volunteered their Sunday afternoon to assist in HTC's Rabbi William Z. and Eda Bess Novick z"l Bigdei Yisrael. The students organized and prepared boxes of gently used clothing to be shipped to Israel. This year alone, 465 boxes will be shipped to 12 different charitable organizations throughout Israel.
To date, HTC has shipped 65 tons of clothing to help the poor in Israel. HTC expresses hakarat hatov to the Novick family for sponsoring this remarkable project. Also, thank you to Mrs. Pnina Levinson and Mrs. Zehava Krauss for their continued dedication to ensure the success of this program.
Special thanks to the many students who helped sort and pack clothing over the last few months. HTC recognizes students from the following schools who volunteered to sort and pack: Arie Crown, Hillel Torah, Akiba Schecter, Ida Crown Jewish Academy, Hanna Sacks Bais Yaakov and Bais Yaakov High School. We could not have done it without you!
On October 19, Hebrew Theological College and Fasman Yeshiva high School hosted a most magical Chai Lifeline Shabbaton at the Yeshiva. Participants and staff from Chai Lifeline took part in a weekend filled with incredible ruach, singing, dancing and fun activities. After Shabbos, FYHS students accompanied the Chai Lifeline participants on a trip to miniature golf and a game room.
In preparation for this event, the Chai Lifeline staff came to speak to our students. They emphasized the importance of being sensitive to the social and emotional needs of the participants. They stressed the importance of realizing that, although these kids are sick, they want to be treated just like regular kids.
The Chai Lifeline staff will return to the Yeshiva to discuss the Shabbaton and what was gained from it. There is no doubt that, after this weekend, many of our students will be volunteering for upcoming Chai Lifeline events.
FYHS thanks Chai Lifeline for this most wonderful opportunity, and we look forward to many more events. For more information about Chai Lifeline, please visit www.chailifeline.org.
