Program Components for Additional Major in Education

ADDITIONAL MAJOR and LICENSURE PROGRAMS IN EDUCATION

The Department of Education provides a second major in Education, with options for pursuit of Hebrew Teacher Certification and /or Illinois State Certification in Elementary or Special Education. The programs are aligned with the professional preparation standards of the Illinois State Board of Education and NCATE, and provide for the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary for effective performance in a teaching role. The programs have been carefully designed to provide a set of interrelated learning experiences that will develop and enhance those abilities that are necessary to become a qualified Educator in public and private schools. Teacher candidates may pursue Illinois State Teacher Certification in Elementary or Special Education through comprehensive training in a challenging sequence of curricula.  The Elementary Education and Special Education programs have been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.  Students may opt for multiple certifications.
